Carlos Amorales (born 1970) is a Mexican
artist who works and lives inMexico City .Biography
Amorales studied at
Gerrit Rietveld Academie inAmsterdam between 1992 and 1995 and at the Rijksakademie in 1996.Works
Known for his flat, bold forms, Amorales works in a wide variety of media, including video animation, painting, drawing, sculpture, and performance. Images of his "liquid archive" - birds, spiders, trees, wolves, etc. - recur through his work in blacks, reds, and grays. His earlier works featured masked Mexican wrestlers performing in
wrestling ring s throughout the world, including at theTate Modern inLondon and the Pompidou Center inParis . His latest animation piece, "Useless Wonder" (2006) was shown at theMiami Basel art fair. Recently, Amorales has had solo exhibitions at theMALBA inBuenos Aires , the Milton Keynes Gallery inMilton Keynes, UK , Yvon Lambert Paris, andMUCA in Mexico City. The artist's work is featured in many public and private collections, including theMoMA in New York,La Colección Jumex in Mexico City, theCisneros Foundation Collection in New York, theMargulies Collection inMiami and theIrish Museum of Modern Art inDublin .External links
