King's Stand Stakes

__NOTOC__The King's Stand Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in the United Kingdom open to thoroughbreds which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 5 furlongs (1,006 metres) at Ascot Racecourse, and it takes place annually during the Royal Ascot meeting in June.

Initially named the Stand Plate in 1837, the race went on to be called the Royal Stand Plate and the Queen's Plate before taking its present name in 1901.

It is presently the second leg of the Global Sprint Challenge, preceded by the Lightning Stakes and followed by the Golden Jubilee Stakes. Horses trained in Australia have frequently contested the race in recent years, with Choisir, Takeover Target and Miss Andretti all winning.

The race regained Group 1 status in 2008 having been previously classed at this level from 1973 to 1987. In the intervening years it was classed as a Group 2 race.
