John A. Nicholson

:"See John Nicholson for similarly-named people"John Anthony Nicholson (November 17, 1827 - November 4, 1906) was a United States Representative from Delaware. Born in Laurel, he completed preparatory studies and was graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania in 1847;. He was superintendent of free schools for Kent County in 1851, studied law in Dover, was admitted to the bar in 1850, and commenced practice in Dover. He was brigadier general of militia in Kent County in 1861, and was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth Congresses, serving from March 4, 1865 to March 4, 1869. He was not a candidate for renomination in 1868 and resumed the practice of his profession. He died in Dover, 1906; interment was in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
