Tottenville Beach, Staten Island

Tottenville Beach is a name sometimes used to denote the southeastern part of Tottenville, the southernmost neighborhood of Staten Island, in the city of New York City, the largest city in the USA.

It is defined as the part of Tottenville south and east of Hylan Boulevard. It is also the newest part of Tottenville, as it was largely undeveloped up until the 1990s (and sadly, served as a dumping ground for abandoned pets, whose feral offspring had to be removed from the area before residential construction could be commenced), and today is the home of many Russian immigrants. It is exclusively residential (including many dwellings of the type often derided as "McMansions" by opponents of continued population growth on Staten Island, which has become a very contentious local issue), and is bordered on the south and west by Conference House Park. Page Avenue is usually considered its northeastern boundary. This applies to all of Tottenville as well.

Surf Avenue, between Loretto Street and Sprague Avenue, is the only street that runs directly adjacent and parallel to the beach, and is a popular spot to watch the fireworks in New Jersey on the 4th of July. While the beach that the area is named for is not popular with swimmers or sunbathers, it is a popular place for fishing. The only commercial establishment in the entire area is the Coral Bay Cafe at 722 Rockaway Street; however, several hotels dotted the shoreline during the first half of the 20th Century.
