Assumption Catholic Secondary School is a Catholic high school in Burlington, Ontario.

chool population

The current school population is 1,197 students for the 2007–2008 school year. This population has been steadily increasing every year as a result of Burlington's continuous growth. In the summer of 2006, portables were added in order to deal with increasing enrollment. Assumption receives most new students from local elementary schools, including St. Raphael, St. Paul, St. Patrick, St. John, and Holy Rosary.

Assumption, like all publicly funded Catholic schools in Ontario, also accepts non-Catholics; however, they are expected to take part in the religious activities and mandatory religious classes.

The Catholic school's parishes are Holy Rosary, St. Raphael's, St. John's, and St. Patrick's. It belongs to the Diocese of Hamilton, under Bishop Anthony Tonnos.

As of next school year (2008–2009), Ascension and Assumption Grades 8–11 students will be transferred to the new Catholic high school, Corpus Christi.

chool Construction and Portables

Assumption currently has six portables, which will be removed in summer 2008 due to the new Burlington high school. In the summer of 2007, Assumption reconstructed their gym and main halls. The school is currently petitioning the City Council to approve the Assumption Sports Field; the school should hear from the city in March.

Corpus Christi High School

As of September 2008, students in Grades 9 and 10 will be transferred to Corpus Christi if they came from Ascension. The projected population of Assumption is 950–1000.

Athletics

Assumption offers a wide variety of sports teams. The Men's Basketball program has grown to compete at the provincial level.

The school offers academic programs for university-bound students, applied programs for college-bound students, and essential programs for the learning challenged; it also offers co-op apprenticeship and workplace programs in computer engineering and cosmetology. The school community prides itself on athletic achievements, and Assumption teams, known as the "Crusaders," are in a wide variety of sports (see below). Arts-related groups include a yearly school play and entries in the Sears Drama Festival.
