The journal surveys international medical journals applying strict criteria for the quality and validity of research and presents key details of these studies in a succinct, informative abstract with an expert commentary on its clinical application.

It is published jointly by the BMJ Publishing Group Ltd and the Royal College of Nursing Publishing Company.
