Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

__NOTOC__The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in the United Kingdom open to thoroughbreds which are three-years-old or above. It is run over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres) at Ascot Racecourse, and it takes place annually in late September.

First run in 1955, the race was named in honour of Queen Elizabeth II. When the present system of race grading was introduced in 1971, the event was given Group 2 status. It was promoted to Group 1, the highest level, in 1987.

As part of the [http://www.breederscup.com/challenge.aspx Breeders' Cup Challenge] series, the winner of the 2008 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Mile.
