Wukro (woreda)

Wukro is one of the 36 woredas in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Misraqawi Zone, Wukro is bordered on the south by the Debubawi (Southern) Zone, on the west by the Mehakelegnaw (Central) Zone, on the north by Hawzen, and on the east by Atsbi Wenberta. Towns in Wukro include Agula, Tsigereda and Wukro.

There are several local monolithic churches in this woreda. These include Wukro Chirkos (at the edge of Wukro town), Abreha we Atsbeha, and Minda'e Mikael. Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 121,260, of whom 62,043 were males and 59,217 were females; 34,632 or 28.56% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 19.6%. With an estimated area of 987.83 square kilometers, Wukro has an estimated population density of 122.8 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 141.59.
