Zelmer was born April 6, 1948, in
Munich , Germany and studied in London at theHampstead School of Art and Paris at theAcademie Julian between 1968 and 1972. From 1975 he worked on colour etchings and lithographs in the studio ofJosef Werner inMunich . Since 1980 he has maintained a second studio inLiguria , Italy. In the early 1980s, Zelmer used the portraits and anatomical drawings of artists such asAlbrecht Dürer andLeonardo da Vinci orCaravaggio as references in his work. In 2000 he moved to Ireland, where he now lives and works. Since 1978 he has exhibited work inBerlin ,Paris ,New York ,Nice ,Geneva ,Sydney ,Tokyo ,Buenos Aires ,Brussels ,Nuremberg ,London andMunich .Awards
