- Geoffrey Van Orden
Geoffrey Charles Van Orden MBE (born
April 10, 1945in Waterlooville, Hampshire) is a British soldier and politician. He is currently Member of the European Parliamentfor the East of Englandregion for the Conservative Party. He was first elected to the European Parliamentin 1999.
Van Orden attended the
Mons Officer Cadet Schooland was commissioned into the Intelligence Corpsin 1964. He was promoted Lieutenantin 1966, Captainin 1970, Majorin 1977, Lieutenant-Colonelin 1983, Colonelin 1988, and Brigadierin 1991.
He is a member of the
Countryside Allianceand the International Institute for Strategic Studies. He was awarded the MBE aged just 27.
accession of Bulgaria to the European Union, Van Orden was the rapporteur for Bulgariain the European Parliament, and regularly reported on the progress of the country with regard to EUmembership requirements. His final report in November 2006 confirmed Bulgaria's preparedness to join the EU.
Van Orden has 3 daughters.
