The Ladd Company

The Ladd Company is a film production and distribution company founded by Alan Ladd, Jr. in 1979, after ending his job as President of 20th Century Fox. [http://theoscarsite.com/whoswho8/ladd_a.htm ] Under Warner Bros., it was most famous for the Henry Winkler comedy "Night Shift", the first two "Police Academy" movies, the space epic "The Right Stuff", and Ridley Scott's sci-fi film "Blade Runner".

The box-office failure of "Right Stuff" and the animated "Twice Upon a Time" (co-produced with Lucasfilm) sent the company in oblivion for over a decade. Amid a brief revival with Paramount Pictures in the mid-1990s, it produced the Best Picture Oscar winner, Mel Gibson's "Braveheart", and two films based on the 1970s TV series "The Brady Bunch": "The Brady Bunch Movie" and "A Very Brady Sequel".

Ladd's most recent releases are the 2005 Lasse Hallström drama, "An Unfinished Life" and the 2007 Ben Affleck drama "Gone Baby Gone", both distributed by Miramax Films.
