Cuéntame (Eng: Tell me) is the sixth album from Mexican pop music singer and actress Lucerito. It was released on 1989. Most of the songs of this album were part of the soundtrack from the motion picture Deliciosa Sinvergüenza; it also includes a cover of The Pet Shop Boys' It's a Sin for the song Hojas Secas (Eng. Dried Leaves). This is one of the biggest selling records in her career which she is crowned as one of the best singers for teenagers; and for the first time the audience saw a singer with two radio hits in the charts in Mexico(words of Raul Velasco), with the songs "Corazón a la deriva" and "Tanto". The album was shaping up to be one of the most successful albums of the late '80s, a decade very representative to Lucero.

History

"Cuétame" meant a celebration for Lucero of 10 years of career, but more than that, "Cuétame" is the first album of her mature stage. Although Melody Records refused to change the diminutive Lucerito by Lucero because of sales issues, "Cuétame" is the last album that carried the diminutive Lucerito, giving closed the infant stage of the artist, just to become one of the most successful young prodigy singers from Mexico in the late 80s, a decade that marked the musical business of Mexico.

The recordings lasted three months: from January to March 1989, in studios in Madrid, Spain and Bologna, Italy, where Lucero had the opportunity to meet some European countries for the first time.

Executive producer Miguel Blasco, of great prestige in Mexico, which had placed more than 9 million albums sold between EMI Latin, CBS Records and Melody Records, was commissioned to make art designs, both in clothing and in music. J.R. Florez and Loris Ceroni were responsible for selecting and composing all the music and lyrics of the album along with Di Felisatti, an excellent Italian composer and arranger responsible for the most memorable hits by Daniela Romo, Yuri, Mijares and others. The idea of Blasco was to show Lucero much more mature and with a stronger image (Lucero appears in the front cover in black leather with studs, heavy earrings and curly hair).

By June, Melody decides to launch the album in Siempre en Domingo. It would be her sixth full-length album in his 10 year career. The second single "Cuéntame" climbed within 2 weeks to the first place of popularity and the album lasted 8 months in chart in Mexico (until February 1990) and it was included in the list of VH1 "Best 100 Songs of the '80s in Spanish".

Singles

In late April, before the album's release, Melody released a maxi-single called "Madre" that would be the first radio single, but it passed unnoticed. "Madre" premieres on Siempre en Domingo, where Lucero pays homage with that song to his mother, who was sitting in the audience watching her daughter's participation. The single "Cuéntame" lasted 10 months in the charts of popularity in Mexico which 10 weeks were at the peak position; it also achieved high request in the Hot Latin Tracks of Billboard; reaching at number #2, becoming one of her two songs ever to peak this position. She recorded 2 videos for "Cuéntame" and a video for "Corazón a la deriva" (Eng: Heart drift), these two songs reached at the top ten of most requested videos in the programs of Latin America. "Corazón a la deriva" topped at #8 in Billboard Hot Latin Tracks, becoming her 6th single to enter to the top ten. By the time the single "Corazón a la deriva" played on the radio, she was already presented as Lucero, name that the singer took on, since she was no longer a child. "Tanto" (Eng: So Much) is released as third single and two videos were made: The first one overcame the other videos made by Lucerito, and another shot in the beach for a special in "Siempre en Domingo". The song "Caso Perdido" (Eng: Hopeless case) had limited release.
