In 2008, "Make You Feel My Love" was covered by Adele. Adele recorded the song on the recommendation of her manager Jonathan Dickins, who loved the song and played it to her.[2] It was included on her #1 debut album 19 and was released as the album's fifth and final single on 3 November 2008, both on CD and vinyl, peaking at #26 on the official UK Top 75 singles chart. The song was used in the 11 February 2009 episode of Waterloo Road and in One Tree Hill, Ghost Whisperer, Parenthood, and the pilot of Against the Wall. The song was also used in Hollyoaks on 21 April 2011, in the season 6 finale of the television show Bones and in EastEnders on 7 July 2011.

Although released in 2008, the vast majority of the sales of Adele's version of Make You Feel My Love came after the song was performed numerous times on the seventh series of The X Factor. It reached a new peak of #24 after its first appearance on the series, then peaked again at #4 after it was performed again. The song spent four weeks in the UK top 10, all completely separate of each other, following respectively a third performance on The X Factor (which sent it back to #9), heavy use on the Comic Relief 2010 telethon (also sending it to #9) and finally an appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in early 2011 (which caused it to climb back to #7). Yet another use of the song on the 2011 series of Britain's Got Talent saw it re-entering the top 40 once more at #34, bringing its total number of weeks in the top 40 to 32. It has now spent a cumulative total of 55 weeks on the official UK Top 75, making it the joint 16th longest runner of all time, and 67 weeks on the Top 100.

On the Irish Singles Chart, it originally charted at #26 in 2008 and after the broadcast of The X Factor, re-entered the charts at #8 on 1 October 2010, peaking at #5.[3]

On August 9th 2011, opening night of the second North American leg of her Adele Live tour in Vancouver BC, Adele dedicated her performance of this song to Amy Winehouse, which was her first performance since Winehouse's passing.

Music video

The video for Adele's version was released on music channels and her website in late September 2008.[4] In the video, Adele is in a city apartment. According to the clock, it is 4:02 a.m. The room is in darkness as she looks out at the city. She picks up her phone and starts singing while texting. She continues sitting in darkness looking out at the city and checking her phone regularly for a response. The song ends, and she hears the phone "ring" indicating that she's received a text message. The video ends as she sits down to read the message.
