Dezincification is a form of dealloying which typically occurs in
brassalloys containing more than 15% zinc. The zinc in the brass alloy is gradually dissolved out.
Dezincification can be caused by water containing
sulfur, carbon dioxideand oxygen. Stagnant or low velocity waters tend to promote dezincification.
