Wolfson Research Institute

The Wolfson Research Institute is a purpose-built research building and research division of the University of Durham. The Institute was named after the Wolfson Foundation which provided funds for the Institute's establishment. The Institute is based at Queen's Campus, Stockton and focuses on interdisciplinary research in medicine and health as well as the application of medical and health research on society. The Institute also runs a fellowship scheme (Wolfson Development Fellows and Visiting Fellowships).

Research

The Institute's research focuses on four key areas:
*Clinical and Health Services
*The Life Sciences and The Life Cycle
*Medical Humanities
*Public Policy, Health and Well-being

The Institute has over 20 laboratories and 60 offices to accommodate its 150 research staff and 100 postgraduates. The institute has a number of research centres within it including:

*Centre for Integrated Health Care Research
*Centre for Policy, Ethics and Life Science (PEALS)
*Centre for Public Policy and Health
*Centre for the History of Medicine and Disease
*Centre for the Study of Cities and Regions
*Child Development Research Unit
*Clinical Management Development
*Cognitive Neuroscience Research Unit
*Medical Anthropology Research Group
*North East Public Health Observatory

In 2005, the Institute's total research output was £15.5 million, with over 173 journal articles, 8 books and over 160 conference papers.
