Lupo the Butcher

Lupo the Butcher

Lupo The Butcher is a 1987 animated film directed and written by Danny Antonucci. This film helped open flood-gates to irreverent animated films which would lead to South Park, Drawn Together, Family Guy, and Beavis and Butthead, during a time when irreverent animation was rarely used.

Plot

The 3 minute film follows the story of a psychotic butcher named Lupo, who swears at his meat and has a huge temper when the smallest things go wrong. He eventually gets angry to the point that he cuts off his own thumb, his body falls apart, and a fountain of blood is unleashed. Then when the film looks like its coming to an end, Lupo's severed head jumps into the credits box and comments about the people who worked on the film. He then falls asleep and the screen fades to black.

Production

Danny Antonucci said that it took him almost 2 years to work on the film. He began production on the film back in 1985 but International Rocketship Ltd., the company he was working for, was afraid to finance his film for controversial reasons relating to the plot line. The company eventually gave in and decided to finance his film. This made Danny very angry because he said it took 2 years to work on the 3 minute film. During most of the 1980s he was working on children's television, which he hated doing.
