North Vista Secondary School (Abbreviation: NV; Chinese: 德新中学) is a secondary school located in Sengkang, in north-eastern Singapore

The campus was relocated to Sengkang New Town from Thomson in December 2000[2]. Thomson Secondary School was renamed as North Vista Secondary School after the relocation. However, the school retained its Chinese name to preserve historical links with the new school.

History

The school started as Thomson Government Chinese Middle School in 1956, as one of the Government Chinese Middle Schools set up to cater to Chinese school students who had their studies disrupted by the Chinese middle schools riots. It later merged with Thomson Vocational School to become Thomson Secondary School.

When Thomson Secondary School was relocated to Sengkang Town on 15 December 2000, it was renamed North Vista Secondary School. The Chinese name of Thomson Secondary School was maintained to preserve its historical links with the new school.

2006 marked the school's Golden Jubilee. There were celebrations throughout the year to commemorate this milestone in the school's history, including a Torch Relay-cum-Homecoming Ceremony on 11 February 2006, a Golden Jubilee Concert on 8 April 2006, and a Gala Dinner in September 2007. Holding their own 10th Anniversary concert coming this 2011.

North Vista has a unique school hour system. Every Wednesday, formal lessons start late at 10.15am to free up morning hours for Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs).

The school has a Digital Arts Studio equipped with Macintosh computers, used for digital image creation and other multimedia works.

The school offers Higher Chinese, as well as Physical Education at the 'O' Level and to date it is the only neighbourhood school in Singapore offering the GCE 'O' Level PE Programme.

The school has a strong sports culture. The school is well known for it's basketball, netball, golf  and athletics teams. These sports have attained national titles and had won numerous external competitions.

In 2011, both athletics and golf won national medals for cross country and golf championships. The athletics team is well known for sprints, middle distance and distance events.

Basketball and Netball won Zonal Championships in 2011.

The school has a comprehensive arts programme (NV-AEP) with monthly art exhibitions and unplugged music sessions. These sessions offer students platforms to express themselves creatively. The music covered ranges from metal, pop and classical music. There is also a permanent art exhibition space, "Art GEMs" for all students to exhibit their 3D and 2D artworks. The school was awarded the National Arts Education Award (Spark) in 2011. The application was put up by the Creative Studies Department.
