Holderness was a local government district and
boroughin northern England, named for the Holdernesspeninsula.
It was formed on
April 1, 1974along with the non-metropolitan county of Humbersidein which it was situated. It was formed from part of the administrative countyof Yorkshire, East Riding, namely:
municipal boroughof Hedon,
urban districts of Hornseaand Withernsea,
Holderness Rural District.
April 1, 1996, Humberside and the borough were abolished, and it became part of the new unitary East Riding of Yorkshire.
