Chris Cole (born January 17, 1964, in Huntersville, North Carolina) is a United States Libertarian Party activist in North Carolina. He was the party's candidate for Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina in the 2004 general elections, earning 2% of the popular statewide vote, and more votes than any other Libertarian candidate on the ballot.

He was the party's nominee for U.S. Senate in 2008.^[1] In polls released October 28, 2008 showing incumbent Elizabeth Dole and Democratic challenger Kay Hagan within the statistical margin of error (3% apart), Cole garnered 4% of the vote.^[2]

In 2002, Cole ran for North Carolina's 9th Congressional district seat. Cole finished 3rd of three candidates with 3,374 votes for 1.74% of the vote.^[3]

In 1996, Cole became the first openly gay candidate for the North Carolina General Assembly when he ran unsuccessfully as a Libertarian candidate against Speaker Jim Black. A resident of Huntersville, North Carolina, Cole has also run unsuccessfully for the Charlotte city council.
