The Westlake/MacArthur Park station was originally the western-most terminus of the Red Line, before the construction of the Wilshire/Western and North Hollywood branches. This station connects to Alvarado Street and Wilshire Boulevard at MacArthur Park. There are two tile murals at this station designed by Francisco Letelier, entitled "El Sol (The Sun)" and "La Luna (The Moon)". There is additional artwork by Therman Statom. As the name suggests, the station serves the Westlake District of Los Angeles.

The entrance to the station is only a few steps away from the popular Langer's Deli; a place famous for its pastrami. Workers from downtown offices often jump on the Red Line or Purple Line in order to have lunch there or send someone to pick up food for take-out.
