Grey High School is a public school for boys located in the city of Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa.

History

The school was founded by Sir George Edward Grey, Governor of Cape Colony for the period 5 December 185415 August 1861. He also founded Grey College, Bloemfontein in 1855, and Auckland Grammar School (Auckland, New Zealand) in 1868. The moto of Grey High school is "Tria Juncta in Uno" meaning 'three joined in one — body, mind and soul', from the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, of which Sir George Grey was created a Knight Commander in 1848.

The school today

There are over 880 boys including 140 boarders. The school celebrated its 150th jubilee in 2006. An incredible school spirit prevails, with boys being immensely proud to say that they attend Grey. In May 2006 over 600 old boys from around the world attended the 150th birthday celebrations. [http://www.theherald.co.za/colarc/hughb/hb100306.htm] . The Grey Institute also includes the attached Grey Junior school with roughly 700 pupils.

Grey Cycle Tour

The Grey Cycle Tour 2008 was a cycle around the country of South Africa completed by seven students from the Grey High School. All the funds raised are going to CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa). So far R150,000 has been raised. ($21,000) (Date recorded:11/03/2008) The idea of the Grey Cycle Tour was to include young people in the fight against cancer.

The total distance traveled was 2300km.
