Jonathan Mark 'Jonny' Howson (born May 21 1988) is an English footballer who currently plays for West Yorkshire team Leeds United.

He was born in the city of Leeds and attended Morley Victoria Primary School and Bruntcliffe High School before starting his professional career. Howson has played almost all of his games for Leeds as a central midfielder.

Howson was a regular in the Leeds reserve team pre-2006, scoring many goals for the side. On 22 August 2006, Howson was given a squad number (33) and place on the bench for the first team against Chester City in the Carling Cup, although he did not play. On 18 September 2006 Howson signed a 3 year deal with the club, pledging his future to the team he has supported since he was a boy.Leeds United (18 September 2006). Jonny made his debut for the Leeds first team against Barnet on the 20 September 2006. New manager Dennis Wise handed Howson his league debut against Hull City on the 23 December 2006 in the 0-0 draw. Howson was booked and awarded the man of the match award Leeds United (23 December 2006). Howson scored his first professional goal on 3 February 2007 against Norwich City in the 20th minute.

Howson became established as a first team choice in the 2007-08 season, earning a new three year contract in the autumn. The peak of Howson's career to date came in Leeds' playoff semi-final (second leg) game against Carlisle United, in which Howson scored both of Leeds' goals in a 2-0 away win to see Leeds win 3-2 on aggregate. Howson won Leeds' young player of the season at the end of the year.

On June 20 2008 Howson signed a new deal which will keep him at Leeds until 2011, extending to 2012 if Leeds win promotion to football's second tier. [LeedsUnited.com (20 June 208. As of October 2008 the 2008/09 season has as yet been somewhat less successful for Howson, with the emergence of Fabian Delph, together with the good form of Leeds' other midfield players meaning that Howson has been used in a squad rotation system rather than as an automatic choice.
