According to Brewer's "Dictionary of Phrase and Fable", yeth-hounds are dogs without heads, said to be the spirits of unbaptised children, which ramble among the woods at night, making wailing noises, probably from Devonshire's folklore. Yeth-hounds are also mentioned in "The Denham Tracts"Fact|date=March 2008.

Yeth Hounds in Dungeons & Dragons

In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the yeth hound is an outsider from evil aligned planes. It resembles a dog crossed with a lynx. It is long and skinny. It is deep black in color with yellow eyes.

The yeth hound hates light, especially sunlight, and never ventures out at day, even if its life depends on it. At night, it hunts by unleashing a mind-affecting howl, and then moving in to bite. The yeth hound is also mentioned as being able to fly, the means used are not mentioned. Due to limited information, there is little else known about the creature.

Yeth hounds cannot speak, but understand Infernal.

They are neutral evil in alignment.
