John M. Murphy

John M. Murphy

John Michael Murphy (born August 3, 1926 in Staten Island, New York) was a member of the Democratic Party, and a member of the United States House of Representatives from New York from 1963 to 1981. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, and after working in the private sector, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives. During the 1970s, he was a prominent supporter of U.S. Senator Henry M. Jackson for President. In 1979, he was implicated in the Abscam scandal, and in 1980, he was defeated for reelection by then state Assemblyman Guy Molinari.
