Vert ramp

Vert ramp

A vert ramp is a form of half-pipe used in "extreme sports" such as skateboarding.

Another form of half-pipe is the mini ramp.

Vert ramps are so named because they transition from a horizontal plane (known as the flat-bottom) to a vertical wall.

The typical height of a vert ramp is 10-14 feet, with anywhere from six inches to three feet of vert on the top.

The vert at the top makes it easier for the rider to catch air on a vert ramp than on a mini-ramp. This is because the vert at the top causes the rider to naturally go straight up instead of forward (as is the tendency on a mini ramp that does not go up to vert).

The act of placing one's skateboard on the edge of the ramp and riding the skateboard down the ramp is referred to as "Dropping in". The term "dropping in" can be used with any extreme sport like skateboarding, aggressive skating or BMX, on any type of ramp.
