Coffey and the Jammer History

  • In the 1990s, "Coffey and the Jammer" (and a later version, "Coffey in the Morning") was the morning show. When the show was replaced by the nationally syndicated "Bob and Tom Show", there was negative feedback from longtime listeners who wanted their local show back. When the show returned to the airwaves in 2004, Cumulus Media gave it a 60 day test run. The show failed to garner enough interest during that run and was not renewed. "Coffey and the Jammer" returned to WTPA in January 2007, but Jammer died March 2, 2007 of an apparent heart attack.[2][citation needed]

Downsizing of Air Talent

Before the purchase of WTPA by Cumulus Broadcasting, there was a long history of on-air personalities, both full and part time, that gave WTPA a full, rich supply of talent, some of which ended up working in major markets. Unfortuntely, most of this talent has either been let go due to budget cuts, or outright fired. WTPA now has only 3 full-time, and no part time on air personalities.

Sports

WTPA is Harrisburg's home of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions football.

HD Radio

WTPA is available in HD Radio.

Frequency Change

On September 16, 2011 WTPA moved from 93.5 FM Mechanicsburg, PA to 92.1 FM Palmyra, PA, swapping frequencies with Rhythmic CHR-formatted WWKL.
