- Ken Hind
Kenneth Harvand Hind, known as Ken Hind, CBE, (born
15 September 1949 ) was the ConservativeMember of Parliament for West Lancashire from 1983 until 1992, when he was defeated by Labour'sColin Pickthall . In 1997, he was a candidate in the General Election for the Selby constituency but was defeated byJohn Grogan .In 1989 Ken Hind presented a
Private Member's Bill to abolish the right of silence of suspects in a police station. He wasParliamentary Private Secretary toPeter Brooke ,Secretary of State for Northern Ireland , between 1989 and 1992.Ken Hind was born on 15 September 1949, and educated at
Woodhouse Grove School and theUniversity of Leeds , where he wasPresident of the Student Union. He graduated in Law, with anLLB degree, in 1971 and then qualified as abarrister atGray's Inn in 1973. He was awarded the CBE after leaving Parliament.He currently practises as a barrister from
Oriel Chambers in Liverpool and Preston. He is also acouncillor , representing the Dilworth ward ofRibble Valley Borough Council .References
