Harry Scolinos

Harry Frank Scolinos (born 1944 in Los Angeles, California) is an American attorney, businessman and politician. He ran for the United States Congress as a Republican in California's 29th District.

Biography

Born to Greek immigrants parents Mary and Peter Scolinos, the Scolinos family built a home in San Gabriel, California in 1947. Harry's mother still lives in that same house today. Harry attended public schools at Washington and Coolidge Grammar Schools. He played both baseball and football at San Gabriel High School where he graduated in 1962. Harry went on to college at Cal Poly, Pomona where he was student body Vice-President. He graduated from in 1966 with a B.S. degree in Social Science.

Harry and his wife Connie, a registered nurse, have been married for 35 years. They have five children: Tasia Scolinos who is Justice Department's Director Of Public Affairs; Alicia Scolinos Medders; Lea Scolinos; Peter Scolinos; and Christiana; along with two grandchildren.

Career

After college graduation, Harry enlisted in the U. S. Army and was sent to Officer Candidates School to become a 1st Lieutenant in the Infantry in 1967. He subsequently attended Military Intelligence School and went on to serve in the Vietnam War in 1969. While serving in Vietnam, Harry was awarded the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Army in 1970, Harry enrolled in night law school while working full time for the Automobile Club. He graduated from Beverly Law School in 1974, receiving his law degree and became a member of the California Bar Association.

In 1980 Harry founded a law practice in Los Angeles, he moved the law firm to Pasadena, where they have remained ever since becoming a senior partner in the firm of Scolinos, Sheldon & Nevell.

In 1998 Harry founded U.S. Fingerprinting Inc. headquartered in Pasadena. U.S. Fingerprinting provides mobile computerized live scan fingerprinting service to many different entities, such as churches, schools, youth sports team, and many others. As the current CEO Harry oversees the largest mobile live scan fingerprinting service in the United States.

In 2003 Scolinos formally announced his candidacy for the 29th Congressional District with introductions made by former Olympian John Nabor and Scolinos’ daughter, Tasia Scolinos, spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Scolinos won the Republican primary election and faced the incumbent Rep. Adam Schiff, a Democrat. He lost in the 2004 elections, but is running for State Assembly.
