Starting in 1998, it moved to a late-summer/early-fall weekend as hotel costs in October in Austin became prohibitive.

Traditions of ArmadilloCon

# Emphasis on literary sf
# Guests of Honor are up-and-coming writers and are frequently first-time GOHs
# Program item "Fannish Feud" has been held regularly since ArmadilloCon 4 in 1983. Frequent hosts of this event have been Pat Cadigan and Walter Jon Williams.
# Willie Siros has been a dealer every year, either as part of "Two Guys from Texas" or "Adventures in Crime & Space"
# The final event of the convention is usually a story reading by Howard Waldrop
