trans-Glutaconic acid is an organic compound with formula HO2CCH=CHCH2CO2H. This dicarboxylic acid exists as a colourless solid and is related to the saturated glutaric acid, HO2CC(CH2)3CO2H. Esters and salts of glutaconic acid are called "glutaconates". A cis isomer is also known (see figure for images of both isomers), as is the anhydride, glutaconic anhydride.

Glutaric acid, 3-hydroxglutaric acid, and glutaconic acid are structurally related metabolites.
