Earthjustice

Earthjustice is a non-profit public interest law firm based in the United States that specializes in pro-environmental litigation.

It was founded in 1971, under the name "Sierra Club Legal Defense Fund," by two volunteer lawyers working with the Sierra Club, Don Harris and Fred Fisher. It changed its name to Earthjustice in 1997. As of August 2004, the group has provided free legal representation to 600 clients ranging from the National Audubon Society to the Friends of the Everglades, according to its website.

It employs about 50 attorneys who represent citizen groups, scientists, fishing organizations, and others in litigation in federal and state courts. Its docket includes cases involving wildlife, national forests, national parks, air pollution, water pollution, transportation, agriculture, and many other matters. The organization has offices in Oakland, California (headquarters); Bozeman, Montana; Juneau, Alaska; Honolulu, Hawaii; Seattle, Washington; Denver, Colorado; Tallahassee, Florida; New York City; and Washington, D.C.
