Jeffrey W. Robbins

Jeffrey W. Robbins (born 1972) is an American Continental philosopher of Religion. He received his B.A. from Baylor University (1994), his M.Div. from Brite Divinity School, Texas Christian University (1997), and his Ph.D. in Religion from Syracuse University (2001). His dissertation was entitled "The Problem of Philosophical Theology."

Work

Robbins is best known for his work in postmodern theology, which is an endeavor to rethink the conditions of possibility for theological thought in light of contemporary forces of secularization, the hermeneutics of suspicion, and religious and cultural diversity. He is also a regular contributor to the Huffington Post where he writes on issues related to religion, politics, and philosophy.

Positions Held

Robbins is currently an associate professor of religion and philosophy at Lebanon Valley College, where he also serves as the director of the college colloquium. He is the author of two books, "Between Faith and Thought: An Essay on the Ontotheological Tradition" (2003) and "In Search of a Non-Dogmatic Theology" (2004), editor of "After the Death of God" with Gianni Vattimo and John D. Caputo, and co-editor with Neal Magee of "The Sleeping Giant Has Awoken: The New Politics of Religion in the United States" (2008). He is also the associate editor for the Journal for Cultural and Religious Theory, and co-editor of the Columbia University Press book series "Insurrections: Critical Studies in Religion, Politics, and Culture."
