Asher Bilu

Asher Bilu

Asher Bilu (born 1936) is a highly regarded Australian artist whose paintings, sculpture and installations are fascinating, challenging and extremely moving.

He is very prolific and has been widely exhibited in Australia and Europe, with work held by major collecting institutions throughout Australia. Bilu’s technique changes as he investigates the use of new media, but his work always reflects his ongoing fascination with light, and his love of music and science, especially cosmology. Major installations include "Escape" which was part of the Melbourne Festival of 1992 and attracted 7000 visitors in 10 days, and more recently "Explanandum", "Mysterium" and "Heavens". HEAVENS was commissioned by the Jewish Museum of Australia and exhibited there from November 2006 until February 2007. It is toured by NETS (National Exhibition Touring Support) to regional public galleries in Australia during 2006-7. He has contributed to several films by Director Paul Cox as production designer, including the acclaimed "Man of Flowers" [imdb title|0085893|Man of Flowers (1983)] and "Human Touch " [imdb title|0375824|Human Touch (2004)] which also features two of Bilu’s major works "Explanandum" and "Amaze".
