The "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" original motion picture soundtrack was released on 12 November 2002. The film's scores were composed by John Williams. Because of scheduling commitments Williams was concerned he would not be able to deliver the complete score.Fact|date=July 2007 He therefore asked composer William Ross to finish the score, if need be, adapting Williams' themes. Ultimately Williams composed most (if not all) of the score, though Ross conducted the scoring session and retained "adaptation" credit. The music was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. From what can be heard in the soundtrack, there are five new themes: one representing Gilderoy Lockhart, one representing the Chamber of Secrets, one representing Moaning Myrtle, one representing Fawkes the phoenix, and one representing the spiders. John Williams did compose and conduct the scores for "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and "Chamber's" sequel, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban".
Upon its release, the soundtrack was available in one of five different collectible covers. Each cover featured a different character or characters packaged above the main cover featuring Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Tracking from other films

Due to Williams' tight schedule, William Ross was allowed to adapt many themes from other pieces John Williams had written that year.

-There is an uncanny resemblance between the music played at one point in "The Duelling Club", when Harry speaks to the snake, to the first minute of "Eye to Eye" from the Jurassic Park soundtrack, also composed by John Williams.

-The melody heard in the tracks "Gilderoy Lockhart" and "The Duelling Club" is nearly identical to the one heard in the track "No Ticket" from Williams' score for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

-The melody heard during the scene in which Harry is being chased by the rogue Bludger is nearly identical to "Zam the Assassin and the Chase Through Coruscant" seen in the . Parts of the Separatist theme found in the track "Return to Tatooine" also score the scene in which Harry writes in Tom Riddle's diary.
