Berry Linux is a Live CD Linux distribution based on Fedora. It features automatic hardware detection, support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI, USB devices and many other peripherals. If you have network devices, they are auto-configured DHCP so you can use Internet. It comes with OpenOffice, a Microsoft Office compatible office suite, and the GIMP, a piece of graphics software. Berry Linux can be used as a Linux demo, educational CD, or rescue system. It is not necessary to install anything on the hard disk. But it's able to install on hard disk. (Needs 1.7GB free space)

The current version is 0.90 2008.5.17 (May 17, 2008) and is in English and Japanese. The full version (v0.90) includes OpenOffice.org version 2.2, Gimp 2.4.5, and runs on Linux Kernel 2.6.24.4. It is about 499 MB, while the mini version is about 148.9 MB. It has built-in support for AIGLX, and 3D Desktop. Unlike most modern distributions, it supports writing to a NTFS partition (commonly used in Microsoft Windows), where in most distributions, it is mounted read only.To test Berry Linux is not necessary to install. This is because the root partition is in the ramdisc using initrd, all commands are operated by being transferred from CD-ROM.

Features

Berry Linux includes the 2.6 Linux Kernel, as well as the ALSA sound system, ACPI support, and SELinux. By defult, it also runs with an overlay filesystem. Catering to people speaking Japanese, it also includes Whiz, a sharp Kana-Kanji conversion system.

Like Ubuntu, it is distributed mainly as a Live CD. It can also be run from a USB drive. Whats makes Berry much different from typical Live CD's and many installer-only distrobutions is that it includes NTFS read/write support as well as great packages like AIGLX/Beryl. Another great feature in Berry, is unlike most current linux distrobutions, Berry's K-Menu is configured such that when pressing the windows key, the menu is displayed, behaviour very much like Windows.

Berry also has a bootsplash, supports DHCP, and is compatible with Fedora Core 8 packages.
