He currently writes the "College Football Mailbag" (The Mailbag) column, numerous individual features, and a College Football Blog. He also writes about men's college basketball. He is an AP voter in the NCAA Football AP poll.

In July 2006, Stewart announced on SI.com that he'd added his own MySpace page.

In September 2006, Stewart stayed with some Notre Dame students after asking for a place to stay in his Mailbag column. He reportedly received hundreds of offers from students willing to host him for a night while he watched games and worked.
