BBC Radio Gloucestershire is the BBC Local Radio service for the English county of Gloucestershire, which started on October 3, 1988. It broadcasts from its studios in London Rd, Gloucester on 95 (Stroud), 95.8 (Cirencester), 104.7 (Gloucester, Cheltenham & Tewkesbury) FM and 1413 in the Cotswolds & Forest of Dean AM. You can also listen via the internet.

Transmitters

The main transmitter is 104.7FM, broadcasting from Churchdown Hill near to jct 11 on the M5. The transmitter is not particularly high, is next to two mobile phone masts, and has a power of 2KW. The transmitter also broadcasts Severn Sound on 102.4 FM & also some of the national radio stations. The station therefore has several infill transmitters on AM and FM. The Stroud transmitter broadcasts on 95.0 FM & serves the Stroud valleys and the Dursley area. This transmitter also has Severn Sound on 103FM. The Cirencester transmitter broadcasts on 95.8FM serving Cirencester and surrounding areas.

From 1992, the station was broadcast only on FM, which did not cover the hilly areas such as the Forest of Dean and Cotswolds which had tuned in on 603MW, so eventually in 1995, after losing all its listeners in these areas, two AM transmitters were switched on to much applause in Bourton-on-the-Water for the Cotswolds and Berkeley Heath for the Forest of Dean.

The station will commence broadcasting on DAB digital radio ( via the Muxco local multiplex ) in 2009. The [http://www.muxco.com/images/transmission-gloucs.jpgDAB transmitters] are planned to be located at Churchdown, Stroud, Icomb Hill (Bourton-on-the-water) and Blunsdon (South Cotswolds)
