It was produced by duo Soulshock & Karlin, and released as the album's second single in fall 1995 (see 1995 in music). In the United States, the song was released on a double A-side single with "Like This and Like That." "Before You Walk out of My Life" became Monica's second number-one hit on the "Billboard" Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and reached number 7 on the "Billboard" Hot 100 and number 22 on the UK singles chart.
