The State University of New York Institute of Technology (SUNYIT) is a campus of the State University of New York located just north of Utica, New York in the town of Marcy.

Established by the SUNY Board of Trustees on June 14, 1966, SUNYIT is the State University’s only institute of technology. Originally a graduate and upper-division institution, the college offered classes in temporary locations and at extension sites for several years until the first buildings were constructed on the permanent campus in the 1980s. Planning for construction of four new major buildings is underway: a $13 million student center, a $20 million sports complex, a $27.5 million technology center and a $22 million dollar dormitory.

SUNYIT’s undergraduate degree majors/programs include: accounting, anthropology, applied mathematics, applied mathematics/electrical engineering, business, civil engineering technology, communication & information design, computer engineering technology, computer & information science, computer information systems, criminal justice, electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, finance, general studies, health information management, health services management, industrial engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, nursing, psychology, sociology,and telecommunications. A pre-law curriculum is also offered.

Graduate degree programs are: master of business administration in health services management, master of business administration in technology management, and master of science degree programs in accountancy, advanced technology, applied sociology, computer & information science, health services administration, information design and technology, telecommunications, adult nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, gerontological nurse practitioner, nursing administration, and nursing education. Accelerated BS/MS options are available in computer science, nursing, and telecommunications.

SUNYIT's intercollegiate athletic teams compete as the "Wildcats" in NCAA Division III. Varsity sports include men’s and women’s basketball, bowling, cross country, golf, soccer, volleyball; men’s baseball; and women’s softball. In 2006, the Men's Basketball team reached the SUNYAC championship game. SUNYIT left the SUNYAC Conference in May of 2008. The SUNYIT Wildcats are currently members of the NEAC (North Eastern Athletic Conference).

Student Association of SUNYIT

The Student Association of SUNYIT is a student-operated organization which serves and represents the students of SUNYIT, organizing and sponsoring a variety of campus events and entertainment. Additionally, the Student Association communicates student concerns to campus administrators.

The Student Association oversees numerous student-run organizations, such as the Campus Activities Board, Club Funding Board, Wildcat Media television/radio station, Factory Times newspaper, and Genesis yearbook. Notable events hosted by Student Association and its constituents includes the SUNY Tech Gamer's Club FragFest, a LAN party that regularly attracts a large amount of gamers for the region, and SITACon, Central New York's largest anime convention.
