- Žepa
Žepa (Cyrillic: "Жепа") is a village in the east of
Bosnia and Herzegovina in themunicipality ofRogatica . Žepa is located northeast of Rogatica itself, southwest ofSrebrenica and northwest ofVišegrad . It lies on the small river Žepa that flows into theDrina river nearby, in a valley between the mountains Javor and Devetak.In
1991 the population of Žepa was 2,441 with 2,330Bosniaks (95%), 103Serbs and 8Yugoslavs .During the War in Bosnia (1992-1995), Žepa became one of three Bosniak
enclave s in eastern Bosnia surrounded by theSerbs , along withSrebrenica a short distance downstream andGoražde farther upstream, after other towns such asFoča ,Bratunac andZvornik wereethnically cleansed . The military commander of the Žepa enclave wasAvdo Palić . In April 1993 Žepa was declared aUnited Nations "safe area" and had a small Ukrainian Army unit ofUNPROFOR stationed there. In July1995 , the town was captured by theArmy of Republika Srpska who expelled the population.External links
