American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists

The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists is a professional organization of textile chemists and colorists, organized as a nonprofit corporation, founded in 1921 by Louis Olney [cite web|title=About AATCC (capsule history on the society's web site)|url=http://www.aatcc.org/about/index.htm] . It has both individual and corporate members. Chapters are located in many regions of the United States and in India. AATCC publishes a peer-reviewed monthly journal, "AATCC Review" [cite web|title=AATCC Review|url=http://www.aatcc.org/media/index.htm] , with technical articles of interest to its professional members.

Together with its counterpart in the United Kingdom, the Society of Dyers and Colourists, it maintains the Colour Index International, a reference database of pigments and dyes.

The AATCC Color Index is also an ASTM standard, so, for example, rose madder my be referred to as "Color index NR9" or "ASTM NR9."
