The Grammy Award for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album has been presented since 1961. From 1962 to 1971 and 1979 to 1991 the award title specified instrumental performances. The award has had several minor name changes:

*In 1961 the award was known as Best Jazz Performance Large Group
*From 1962 to 1963 it was awarded as Best Jazz Performance - Large Group (Instrumental)
*In 1964 it was awarded as Best Instrumental Jazz Performance - Large Group
*From 1965 to 1971 it was awarded as Best Instrumental Jazz Performance - Large Group or Soloist with Large Group
*From 1972 to 1978 it was awarded as Best Jazz Performance by a Big Band
*From 1979 to 1991 it was awarded as Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Big Band
*From 1992 to 2000 it was awarded as Best Large Jazz Ensemble Performance
*Since 2001 it has been awarded as Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album
