Ekbatan

Ekbatan Town (PerB|شهرک اکباتان) is a planned town built as a project of modern apartment buildings in western part of Tehran, Iran. Today it is considered one of Tehran's neighborhoods. It is the largest residential complex in Tehran. It is also the location of one of Tehran Monorail stations.

History

The Construction of the Ekbatan complex started in 1975 for the purpose of mass housing. It has 15,500 units on an area of 2,208,570 m2 located in western Tehran. It was designed by American architects and built by French, German and Italian engineers and it is called "Shahrake Ekbatan".

Description

Ekbatan has 3 sets of buildings called phase and in each phase it has some independent buildings named block. Architecture of blocks of phases 1 and 3 of Ekbatan are like each other but different from Phase 2. Each block of phase 1(or 3) has 3 major steps when you look from sides, there are 5 floors in first step, 9 in second and 12 in the third one. But in phase 2 blocks are made of huge box-shaped parts that put together with angle and all have 12 floors. Another difference between phase 1 and 3 with 2 is about apartments plan that in phase 1(or 3) apartments are single floored and in phase 2 they're built mostly in double floors (Duplex) usually have Hall, kitchen, etc. in the first floor and rooms placed in the upper(second) floor. In all of these phases you could find 1,2,3 or 4-roomed apartments that begins from about 50 m2 to 240 m2.

The main boulevard in Ekbatan Phase 2 is named after the Iranian reporter Mahmoud Saremi, a terrorism victim killed by Taliban while working in Mazar Sharif.
