Timber Creek High School is a public high school located in Orlando, Florida. The mascot is Wolfie, and the principal is Mr. John Wright. The school motto is "Sciencia, Prudentia et Honor".

History

Timber Creek opened in the 2001-2002 school year to relieve overcrowding at nearby University High School. Timber Creek High School has since become the largest school in Orange County with nearly 4,400 students enrolled, and the second largest high school in the state of Florida. Much of the peacefulness of the school is attributed to the active administration and involvement of the teachers. The basic structure is one main courtyard with hallways radiating outwards from it. Timber Creek High School offers many programs that are uncommon in the area, such as Chinese Language and Russian Language courses [ [http://www.tchs.ocps.net/content.php?sec=WORLDLANGUAGES&id=index Timber Creek High School ] ] .

Sports

Timber Creek High School has made it to a divisional playoff in football twice (with a first-round loss during the 2006 season, repeated during the 2007 season), since their division sets them against other major playoff-contending high schools such as Apopka, Edgewater, and Lake Brantley. Timber Creek's attendance at football games is in the hundreds, among the higher numbers in the area.Fact|date=July 2008

Timber Creek has also been successful in other sports such as Basketball, Bowling (2006 FHSAA State Champion Boys and Girls Teams)Fact|date=July 2008, Volleyball, Softball, Cross Country, Swim Team, Cheerleading, Track, Soccer, and Weightlifting( Boys and Girls). All have received significant recognition at the state level.Fact|date=July 2008 Other athletic teams offered by Timber Creek include: Girl's Flag Football, Baseball, Golf, Wrestling, Hockey (just recently stopped being only a club sport), Lacrosse, and Water Polo.

Major rivals are Apopka High School, Winter Park High School and Edgewater High School.

* AP U.S. History
* AP World History
* AP European History
* AP Government
* AP Economics
* AP Human Geography
* AP Biology
* AP Environmental Science
* AP Chemistry
* AP Physics
* AP Music Theory
* AP Psychology
* AP Calculus AB
* AP Calculus BC
* AP English Language
* AP English Literature
* AP French Language
* AP Spanish Language
* AP Spanish Literature
* AP German Language
* AP Chinese LanguageThe APC (AP Choice) program is an advanced placement program for freshmen and sophomores. The APC program puts its students in classes with other APC students, and moves these classes at a faster pace then normal honors classes. It is intended to prepare the students for the AP courses that they will take in the future. The APC program also requires the enrollment in AP Human Geography freshmen year to give the students a taste of AP classes. At graduation, if the students that were in the APC program have taken at least 6 AP classes during their high school years, they receive a special sticker on their diploma that recognizes them as an AP scholar.

The program, however, has been criticized by students because, contrary to its name, it actually forces students to take certain classes as part of the program (like AP Human Geography), instead of letting them choose all of their classes (resulting in the frequent referral to the program as "AP no-choice" by students).

Performing Arts

Timber Creek High School has a notable Performing Arts program.

Theatre Program

The Timber Creek Drama Department is known as the Timber Creek Character Company (TCCC). The character company produces three full-length shows and one one-act show every year. The Fall show has usually been a more classic play, though a musical play will be performed in 2008-09. The Winter show is usually a Christmas show, and invites the community to join the cast and share memorable moments on the stage. The last full-length show is always the Spring musical. The Company has produced large scale shows such as Dracula, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, Once Upon a Mattress, Crazy For You, Arsenic and Old Lace, Miracle on 34th Street, Footloose and Cats (musical). The character company is also actively involved with the Cappies program, which is a student theatre critic program.
