John J. Jenkins

John James Jenkins (August 24, 1843-June 8, 1911) was a Republican U.S. Representative from Wisconsin from 1895 to 1909. He had previously served as United States Attorney for Wyoming Territory. He served as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee from 1903 to 1909. Subsequently, President William Howard Taft appointed Jenkins to serve a four-year term as Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. Jenkins assumed that post in May 1910 but was largely unable to discharge his judicial duties due to illness before dying the following year. He was succeeded by Paul Charlton.
