The Imam Khomeini International University is a university in Iran, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Located in the Northwest of Tehran in the city of Qazvin in Qazvin Province, IKIU and its surrounding communities provide a cultural, industrial, agricultural and recreational environment suited to the work of a major research institution.

History

IKIU is a newly built governmental university, dating back to January 1983 when the post-revolutionary parliament (Majlis) passed the Act of Establishing International Islamic University under the administration of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology (MSRT) to enhance the knowledge among Iranian and non-Iranian applicants from the Islamic and non-Islamic world. Since its operational commencement in 1991, IKIU integrated with "The Institute of Higher Education of Dehkhoda" (مجتمع آموزش عالي دهخداي قزوين)upgraded to university status, changed its name to Islamic International University and later in 1993 to Imam Khomeini International University in 1993. In the academic year of 2006-2007 IKIU had 183 full-time academic staffs out of whom were 143 people holding a doctorate. The total student numbers were 6232 people for Bachelor, 492 for Master and 8 for PhD programs out of which 435 people obtained Bachelor and 72 people obtained Master degrees. IKIU has been a member of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) since April 2007, the International Association of Universities (IAU) since July 2008 and the Association of the Caspian Sea State Universities (ACSSU) since August 2008.IKIU has so far gained a good reputation in quality assurance at the national level in 2006 by the MSRT by obtaining the research rank of 26 among 63 Iranian universities and the 1st rank in the book translation. Some of academic achievements of IKIU academic staffs are publication of more than 30 academic books, more than 130 articles in different ISI journals, more than 200 articles published in different peer reviewed research national journals and 8 nationally registered inventions. IKIU press has so far published 27 scientific books, 3 scientific journals, 18 research newsletters, and 25 public relation newsletters.University courses are taught in Persian and the degrees granted are internationally accredited and the graduates will have no problem in continuing their education in other universities or other countries and even had more job opportunities in the diplomatic corps of their respective countries or in the companies which operate in Iran or have relations with Iran. The cost of living and the university fees in Iran are much lower than the North American and European countries and Qazvin and IKIU are both of relatively lower costs of accommodation and fees in comparison with other Iranian cities and universities. Therefore, applicants will be able to live comfortably in the university dorms or in rental flats and houses even with their spouses and children.

IKIU offers 32 Bachelors degrees, 45 Masters degrees and 7 PhD degrees, and admits 200 students annually from more than 70 countries for Persian language studies and other university fields of Humanities,Basic Sciences, Engineering & Technical, Architecture and Social Sciences.
