Sardulgarh is a town and a nagar panchayat in Mansa district in the Indian state of Punjab.

Geography

Sardulgarh is located at coord|29.7|N|75.25|E|. [ [http://www.fallingrain.com/world/IN/23/Sardulgarh.html Falling Rain Genomics, Inc - Sardulgarh] ] It has an average elevation of 210 metres (688 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Sardulgarh had a population of 16,315. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Sardulgarh has an average literacy rate of 54%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 59%, and female literacy is 48%. In Sardulgarh, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age. Before the formation of Harayana Sikhs were about 90% of the population, since Harayana was formed Sikhs are about 70% and Hindus 30%. In 1987 Sardulgarh had increasingly high volume of bomb blast and killing of non Sikhs who did not wear turbans by militants who wanted a separate homeland called Khalistian. From 1982 to 1992 there were about 6,000 people killed in Sardulgarh because there weren't wearing turbans, or they were against Khalistian. Mostly Hindu residents suffered the most and there were some Sikhs as well.
