Nowshehra or Naushera is a town and a notified area committee in Rajauri district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Geography

Nowshehra is located at 34°08′N 74°48′E / 34.13°N 74.80°E / 34.13; 74.80.[1] It has an average elevation of 1,575 metres (5,167 feet).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Nowshehra had a population of 4415. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Nowshehra has an average literacy rate of 79%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 76%. In Nowshehra, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
