"American Journal of Philology" ("AJP") is an academic journal founded in 1880 by the renowned classical scholar Basil Lanneau Gildersleeve. It is widely recognized as a top research publication in the field of philology, and related areas of classical literature, linguistics, history, philosophy, and cultural studies, incorporating myriad interdisciplinary approaches to its topic. In 2003, "AJP" received the award for Best Single Issue from the Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers. The current editor of the journal is David H. J. Larmour of Texas Tech University.

The journal is published quarterly in March, June, September, and December. Its circulation is 1,093 and the average length of an issue is 176 pages.
