Sir Guy Carleton Elementary School (or its more common name "Carleton") is an elementary school situated in the Collingwood neighbourhood of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The school is a part of School District 39 Vancouver.

History

Located at the intersection of Kingsway and Joyce Street, the original schoolhouse was central to the Collingwood community since its completion in 1896. The school is named after Guy Carleton, Quebec's governor during the 18th century.

Current

Carleton has since grown from the small one-room schoolhouse and has added three more buildings into the area over the course of the years: a two-room schoolhouse, a two-story Edwardian-style building, and a bigger red brick building. Carleton now houses 19 classes from Kindergarten to Grade 7 and educates about 420 students every year . Like many of the schools in the area, Carleton has a very diverse school population. After Grade 7, most students will move on to either Killarney Secondary School or Windermere Secondary School, with a vast majority going to Killarney.

The school is located a few blocks south of the nearby Joyce-Collingwood SkyTrain Station.

In March 2008, the historic schoolhouse was set ablaze.
